MRHS Rehab Simulators
HI. I’m Michelle and I work at the Talent Acquisition Center at Memorial Healthcare System. Today we’re here at Memorial Regional Hospital South to show you our inpatient rehab acute facility. I’m going to go ahead and introduce you to one of our resident OTs here so she can walk me around and show you what we do.
Here’s Jen and she’s one of our OTs here, and Jen, take it away!
Hi all, my name is Jen and I’m one of the occupational therapists and I’ve been here for about two and a half years.
Here in Rehab our primary goal is to get patients safe and independent as possible in order to go home. So let me give you a little tour around the gym.
We have a full length body weight support system that can help everybody get around the gym if they can’t walk; we have stairs to practice on; we have parallel bars; we have all sorts of equipment to help patients stand up.
If you follow me down here … any sort of level of independency we have everything that you need. We have bikes, we have treadmills. As we continue around we have weight machines over here, and then across the gym, we’ve got a full closet full of nick knacks and activities to work on your arm strength, your coordination and your positive status.
Depending on what patients like to do, we also have music orientation; we have activity orientation; as you can see over here we have video screen if you want to play video games; or if you like to play the drums; and then more weight equipment over here.
So we’d love to have you come join us.
But wait there’s more at Memorial Regional Hospital South for Rehab!
Hey Jen, why don’t you take it away?
Here on the fifth floor we have Determination Drive. We have a car that you can practice getting in and out of, don’t worry there is no engine. We have an ATM, if you need to practice taking out your money. And if you follow me over here we also have a library where you can sit and relax, read your books, and we have a partial grocery store that you can practice your grocery shopping.
Now, the reason why we do all of the things we do here is to get our patients ready for discharge. So all of these things are simulations in order to practice for real life scenarios. So let me take you into our apartment.
Now, this is a full apartment here. We have your couch. We have a whole kitchen where we do practice preparing meals, walking around, taking care of pets, loading the dishwasher, and so on and so forth. And we also have a full bedroom to practice getting in and out of a real bed, and going into a real bathroom with showers and equipment, so good it’s all real-life simulations for everyday life.
Thanks for joining us.
